eXpansys Exclusivity on the Milestone Finally Ends

March 3, 2010MotorolaNo Comments

The same problem that plagues the Google phone Nexus One is the very same reason why not many people in the UK have been able to try out the new Motorola Milestone.

Now, here’s an Android phone that many of us thought we would never get to use. After all, when the Motorola DROID was first announced, the sentence ended with “Verizon exclusive” –not only was the device limited to a US region, it was even locked to a carrier. Motorola quickly broke the good news by announcing that the device would be renamed and launched in the UK as the Motorola Milestone.

Sadly, when the Milestone did arrive, internet retailer eXpansys was first on the scene to claim exclusive dibs on the Android smart phone. Since December, the Milestone was not available through any other means aside from ordering online.

Now, Carphone Warehouse is first to bring us the good news that the Milestone exclusivity is not just over, they are also offering the device on their store shelves for everyone to get. They are also offering T-mobile contracts for the smart phone at their stores.

For those wondering about what makes the Milestone such a great device; this Motorola masterpiece is a mid-range spec device that runs the new Android 2.0 Éclair operating system. The large capacitive touch screen is complemented by a slide out QWERTY keyboard –the first Android device to have a physical keyboard.

It’s a great combination that has gotten everyone eager to try out the DROID when it was first leaked. When the Milestone was brought over to the UK, Motorola added multi touch function on the device –a feature missing in the original US release of the Android smart phone.

Motorola Droid Throws a Real Punch to the Gut

December 3, 2009Motorola2 Comments

Motorola MILESTONEThe world’s first Android 2.0 smartphone is also the world’s thinnest full QWERTY slider touchscreen mobile phone at just 13.7mm thin.  We’re talking about the Motorola DROID under Verizon in the US and is expected to reach the other side of the Atlantic under the Milestone name.

After years of being the underdog in mobile phones among the world’s leading makers, Motorola seems to have found its footing with a handset that is user to make waves on both sides of the Atlantic and elsewhere.  There will be some differences though, particularly in the GPS aspect.  The US version will get full Google support all the way from the OS to apps that include the Google Maps navigation systems that is just a good as any GPS guidance system on the planet.  The European Milestone version gets Motorola’s own MOTONAV GPS system instead.

Upscale Features at a Glance

The Motorola DROID is a quad band GSM/GPRS?EDGE on 2G and a dual-band UMTS on the 3G network with broadband HSPA data connectivity for a no-wait surfing and downloading experience on the net.  It has a 3/7” capacitive touchscreen display with wide VGA resolution and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with zoom, geo tagging and DVD-quality video recording.

What puts the DROID at the top of the heap is its all-Google software from OS to application suites. Apart for its excellent Google Maps navigation system which could very well be matched by the MOTONAV for the Milestone version, there’ the s Google Web search on the search bar that enables you  to make a search based on location that promptly initiate searches on your apps, contacts, browser and even YouTube. Your inbox integrates your Gmail and Exchange email client accounts as well as provide access to the Android Market.

Availability

The Motorola DROID will be exclusive to the Verizon network in the US while its Milestone in Europe will have O2 carrying it at least in Germany where a SIM-free price tag of €481  puts it affordably appealing as a high value flagship smartphone that can deliver a one-two punch to the gut against equally impressive QWERTY smartphones costing more.
