Motorola ROKR ZN50

August 27, 2009MotorolaNo Comments

motorola-rokr-zn50-3The Motorola ROKR ZN50 is one of the first mobile phones to be launched by Motorola this year with an attractive appearance. This is a huge improvement from the previous phones which looked quite boring with no sense of style at all. The Motorola ROKR ZN50 has a 3 panel home page view making it easy for you to navigate through menus and submenus. This whole system makes it incredibly easy for you to access all the applications of the phone without any problem.

Media features of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 are also good, as the phone comes with a decent media player which can play a wide range of media formats. You can store a wide range of media formats in your library by expanding the internal memory if you want to. However, most people are satisfied with the 4 GB that is already built in the phone. If you want to have an extensive video library, you will need a larger memory.

The Motorola ROKR ZN50 is the first phone released by Motorola to feature a panorama. This means that the home screen of the phone features 3 different menus panels. This screen has a 240 x 427 pixels resolution, making videos viewed on the screen nice and clear. The camera of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 has autofocus as well, allowing photos to be captured easily. Even shots taken in dim light turn out to be clearer than you would expect. These photos are good enough, though you will need a standalone camera if you are looking for excellent clarity and detail. The inbuilt GPS receiver adds to the utility of the phone, as the device can be used for navigation as well. Other media features include an FM radio which allows you to tune in to listen to your favorite songs on the radio.

LG Louvre GC990- A phone like no other!

August 26, 2009LGNo Comments

lg_gc990_louvreThe LG Louvre GC990 is one of the new phones set to be released to the market this year. With Wi-Fi and DLNA, access to the internet has never been as easy or efficient! You can download files directly off the internet to your phone without any hassle involved in transferring files. The TV out port gives you the option of viewing your media on a larger screen if you want to. You can watch your favorite media on a larger screen instead of having to make do with the small screen on the phone. The advanced GPS feature on LG Louvre GC990 makes the phone even better, as you can use the LG Louvre GC990 as a navigational tool as well.

The LG Louvre GC990 has a 3.2 inch TFT display which allows up to 16 million colors to be displayed. This display is nice and bright making it a good screen to view web pages on, even if your eyesight is poor. The S-Class user interface that the phone utilizes is one of the best touch screens in the market right now. This user interface gets its inspiration from the 3D cube navigation system which uses the accelerometer sensor for auto rotation of the display. The ease of use of this interface is unmatched by any other touch screen.

The LG Louvre GC990 looks more like a digital camera than a phone. This is mainly because of the Schneider-Kreuznach lens on the primary camera. The shutter lag of this device is virtually zero, which means that you can capture photos in real time without having to hold the camera for a few seconds after clicking the capture key. Night time photography is equally good thanks to the xenon flash.

LG BL40 Chocolate- An enhanced touch experience!

August 25, 2009LG1 Comment

lgchoccy003The LG BL40 Chocolate is one of the new phones to be launched into the market later this year. Featuring a full touch screen, the user interface of the phone is very intuitive. This screen comes with a dual screen user interface, as when you run 2 applications at the same time, you can check on the status of both of them simultaneously. This makes it very easy for you to keep track of all the applications that you use. Storing a number of applications on the phone is possible, as you can expand the memory using the microSD slot.

Quad band GSM makes roaming easy and efficient. You can even access a range of data networks including GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA, which basically translates to easier and faster downloading, directly to your phone. Updating your music collection is a cinch, as you can do it over the air within minutes! Even watching streamed videos on the 4 inch TFT display is a feast for your eyes!

The 5 MP camera on the phone can be used to capture photos replacing your stand alone camera. With excellent detail, even in photos taken in dim light, the camera makes the LG BL40 Chocolate an even bigger force to be reckoned with. Autofocus, digital zoom, and a basic photo and video editing application round up the features of this camera. A secondary camera on the front face of the LG BL40 Chocolate allows the phone to be used for video calling as well.

Other media features of the LG BL40 Chocolate include a decent media player, and an FM radio. The media player can play a range of media formats such as MP3, WMA etc. The only possible disadvantage would be its price as the LG BL40 Chocolate is bound to feature in the high end of the price spectrum.

Toshiba TG01

August 12, 2009ToshibaNo Comments

tg01The Toshiba TG01 is a stab at the smartphone market which is currently being dominated by the likes of Apple, HTC and Nokia. The G01 is an amazing device in that it has a specifications sheet that might give you a heart attack! A 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a massive 4.1 inch screen (the next best screen in the market being 3.8 inches) and a super slim waistline of 9.9 mm (something to rival even the ultra slim smartphone, the iPhone 3GS) is sure to leave your gaping and wishing that the phone would pop up in your hands this instant!
The Toshiba TG01 has a 3.2 megapixel camera which doesn’t really have any features to boast about. It is a pity, considering how much effort they put into the rest of the phone. A variety of resolutions, autofocus and a timer are present to make it a fairly decent camera, but it lags a fair distance behind the similar pixelised camera of the iPhone 3GS. The absence of a flash as well as the lack of a night mode setting means that taking pictures in low light can be taken out of the equation.
The Toshiba TG01 is fairly good when considering video playback. This is because the massive 4.1 inch screen means that it is a great thing to watch movies on the phone while you are on the go. However, there always seemed to be a glare appearing on the screen from our coffee mug, but a small change of angle fixed it.
Being the first to have made a phone on the Snapdragon processor, Toshiba has gotten a lot of plaudits for the phone. The massive screen, super slim waistline and a top processor make it a serious contender for the title of best smartphone ever. The phone has been released in June earlier this year.

T-Mobile G1 Touch

August 11, 2009HTC, T-MobileNo Comments

tmobile_g1_touchThe T-Mobile G1 Touch is the latest phone to have been released on the Google Android OS. Though the phone gives the initial impression of being a pretender, a couple of minutes of usage of the phone should convince you to think otherwise.
The display of the T-Mobile G1 Touch is quite good and, though it is a tad smaller than the display found on the iPhone, the screen overalledly is better than that of the iPhone, so that’s an encouraging start.
As for setting up the phone, quite strangely, you need a Google account if you are to start doing anything with the phone – this includes even activating the phone on the T-Mobile network. Since I really hadn’t purchased their G1 plan, I couldn’t really get the phone activated for use immediately so I had to get some help from T-Mobile in order to get the phone activated. I didn’t realise the problem immediately and had to grope around for a couple of days before calling the customer service.
However, once you activate it, you will get the main screen, where there are 4 default icons – dialer, contacts, browser and maps – in that order. The order gives perfect priority to each of the functions.
There were plenty of apps which came bundled with the G1. This included IM, Email client, a music player, a built – in calendar, integration with Amazon MP3 and mobile YouTube. The Voice Dialer function is also present, enabling you to dial a contact’s number by just mentioning their name. This function has become commonplace for a couple of years now as far as Nokia phones are concerned, so it’s very applaudable that HTC decided to get it on board as well.

However, the best app by a long distance is the Google Maps, which really kills with its pinpoint accuracy!
The full – QWERTY of the T-Mobile G1 Touch served to make the G1 extremely heavy and the choice of colour scheme on the keyboard is quite disappointing, blacking out some keys when in the dark!

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

sony-ericsson-xperia-x2-leakAccording to a number of experts, the biggest surprise (and perhaps, the biggest disappointment) was the non – revealing of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 by Sony Ericsson during the CommunicAsia show, which was conducted during the end of June. The X2 is one of the most currently widely anticipated phone due to the fact that it will be only the second phone to be released by Sony Ericsson on the Windows Mobile platform. Due to the high level of success enjoyed with the XPERIA X1, the X2 is expected to be even better, thereby raising the level of hopes for this phone.
As is the custom with nearly all the mobile phone companies nowadays, Sony Ericsson doesn’t seem to like to reveal officially the details about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 but, instead, prefers to just leak out a couple of pictures and, once in a while, some details about the specifications as well. Though there have not been much details about the specifications, the pictures are mouth – watering enough to keep us busy. The biggest upgrade to the X2 over the X1 seems to be the larger screen. The screen of the X2 is nearly 0.5 inches longer than that of the X1, meaning that anything viewed on the screen will result in a great experience. Another boost to the screen comes in the form of an OLED screen, which is an improvement over the LCD screen in the X1.
The details with regard to the Qualcomm processor present on the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 cannot be identified as no other details of the phone have been revealed. However, the important thing to note is that the X2 is sure to have better speeds than that of the X1 and the software will be played around with to ensure that performance is maximum.

Sony Ericsson T707 Elle

Sony ElleThe Sony Ericsson T707 Elle is one of the newest handsets to have been unveiled by Sony Ericsson and is set for release later in the year. The phone is also nicknamed Elle. The phone is not part of the Walkman series, but belongs to the T-series, which has a proud history, starting off with the T610, which many consider as the start of the boost in sales of Sony Ericsson phones as a whole. The Sony Ericsson T707 Elle doesn’t have a wide array of features, but such features cannot be expected of a phone which has been made mroe towards catering to the mid – range segment of the market. The phone, however, will have some of the music capabilities that are generally found only in Walkman series handsets. The phoen is very light at 98 grams, thereby making it extremely easy to slip into your pocket. The Elle makes use of a QVGA display which measures in at 2.2 inches. The phone will be available in 5 different colour schemes, purple, green, blue, black and orange, thereby enabling you to pick the colour which best suits your profile.

The Sony Ericsson T707 Elle has an array of connectivity options, some of which include GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA connectivity. The phone has a fairly decent amount of internal memory, which can be expanded to a maximum of 2 GB by using a M2 memory card.

The Sony Ericsson T707 Elle makes use of a 3.15 megapixel camera which is fairly decent and can take some good pictures under the condition that there is a fair bit of light. Pictures taken under bright light tend to turn out crystal clear. The lack of autofocus means that pictures won’t be as clear as you would like them to be.
