The same problem that plagues the Google phone Nexus One is the very same reason why not many people in the UK have been able to try out the new Motorola Milestone.
Now, here’s an Android phone that many of us thought we would never get to use. After all, when the Motorola DROID was first announced, the sentence ended with “Verizon exclusive” –not only was the device limited to a US region, it was even locked to a carrier. Motorola quickly broke the good news by announcing that the device would be renamed and launched in the UK as the Motorola Milestone.
Sadly, when the Milestone did arrive, internet retailer eXpansys was first on the scene to claim exclusive dibs on the Android smart phone. Since December, the Milestone was not available through any other means aside from ordering online.
Now, Carphone Warehouse is first to bring us the good news that the Milestone exclusivity is not just over, they are also offering the device on their store shelves for everyone to get. They are also offering T-mobile contracts for the smart phone at their stores.
For those wondering about what makes the Milestone such a great device; this Motorola masterpiece is a mid-range spec device that runs the new Android 2.0 Éclair operating system. The large capacitive touch screen is complemented by a slide out QWERTY keyboard –the first Android device to have a physical keyboard.
It’s a great combination that has gotten everyone eager to try out the DROID when it was first leaked. When the Milestone was brought over to the UK, Motorola added multi touch function on the device –a feature missing in the original US release of the Android smart phone.

The Motorola BACKFLIP will be available in stores sometime in 2010. The existence of the handset was confirmed by the mobile giant at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show). This isn’t standard protocol but was how Motorola decided to announce the soon-to-be arrival of its latest Android. This will be their third. The previous ones were the Cliq and the Droid.
One of the unique features of the handset is the keyboard. It is what is known as a foldover reverse flip QWERTY. This reverse flip action is how the phone got its name. The keyboard appears to be a bit odd at first but ends up working really nice.
The Backflip has a nice sized screen at 3.1 inches. It is a HVGA. The mobile comes standard with a 5 megapixel camera, which is one of the better mobile phone camera phones on the market. Many of the lower end phones stick with 3.0 megapixels or lower.
The Motorola Backflip works on the 3 G network, allows individuals to GPS their way out of being lost and offers Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Backtrack is one of the phone’s coolest features. It allows individuals to flip through their pictures, texts and emails on the back of the phone where ones view of the main screen is not hindered by their fingers and/or hands. The phone’s keypress is decent and the MotoBlur content delivery feature allows individuals to keep their social networks, emails and phone content in one place.
The recently announced Motorola Backflip appears to be a quality phone, at least based on the specs. They are pretty impressive. The phone has a nice camera at 5.0 pixels and a good size screen (3.0 inches). There hasn’t been any word on price so it’s not yet possible to get the entire picture in terms of value, but so far, it looks good. Motorola keeps on pushing these Androids with the Backflip being the third. I suppose if it is a success we should expect to keep seeing them.
The world’s first Android 2.0 smartphone is also the world’s thinnest full QWERTY slider touchscreen mobile phone at just 13.7mm thin. We’re talking about the Motorola DROID under Verizon in the US and is expected to reach the other side of the Atlantic under the Milestone name.
After years of being the underdog in mobile phones among the world’s leading makers, Motorola seems to have found its footing with a handset that is user to make waves on both sides of the Atlantic and elsewhere. There will be some differences though, particularly in the GPS aspect. The US version will get full Google support all the way from the OS to apps that include the Google Maps navigation systems that is just a good as any GPS guidance system on the planet. The European Milestone version gets Motorola’s own MOTONAV GPS system instead.
Upscale Features at a Glance
The Motorola DROID is a quad band GSM/GPRS?EDGE on 2G and a dual-band UMTS on the 3G network with broadband HSPA data connectivity for a no-wait surfing and downloading experience on the net. It has a 3/7” capacitive touchscreen display with wide VGA resolution and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with zoom, geo tagging and DVD-quality video recording.
What puts the DROID at the top of the heap is its all-Google software from OS to application suites. Apart for its excellent Google Maps navigation system which could very well be matched by the MOTONAV for the Milestone version, there’ the s Google Web search on the search bar that enables you to make a search based on location that promptly initiate searches on your apps, contacts, browser and even YouTube. Your inbox integrates your Gmail and Exchange email client accounts as well as provide access to the Android Market.
Availability
The Motorola DROID will be exclusive to the Verizon network in the US while its Milestone in Europe will have O2 carrying it at least in Germany where a SIM-free price tag of €481 puts it affordably appealing as a high value flagship smartphone that can deliver a one-two punch to the gut against equally impressive QWERTY smartphones costing more.
The Motorola ROKR ZN50 is one of the first mobile phones to be launched by Motorola this year with an attractive appearance. This is a huge improvement from the previous phones which looked quite boring with no sense of style at all. The Motorola ROKR ZN50 has a 3 panel home page view making it easy for you to navigate through menus and submenus. This whole system makes it incredibly easy for you to access all the applications of the phone without any problem.
Media features of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 are also good, as the phone comes with a decent media player which can play a wide range of media formats. You can store a wide range of media formats in your library by expanding the internal memory if you want to. However, most people are satisfied with the 4 GB that is already built in the phone. If you want to have an extensive video library, you will need a larger memory.
The Motorola ROKR ZN50 is the first phone released by Motorola to feature a panorama. This means that the home screen of the phone features 3 different menus panels. This screen has a 240 x 427 pixels resolution, making videos viewed on the screen nice and clear. The camera of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 has autofocus as well, allowing photos to be captured easily. Even shots taken in dim light turn out to be clearer than you would expect. These photos are good enough, though you will need a standalone camera if you are looking for excellent clarity and detail. The inbuilt GPS receiver adds to the utility of the phone, as the device can be used for navigation as well. Other media features include an FM radio which allows you to tune in to listen to your favorite songs on the radio.
Motorola’s Aura Celestial Edition is the new fancy and very expensive mobile phone with a moon theme. It has been launched to commemorate the frothiest anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission. You can get to know more about the handset at Mirror.co.uk. This new device is very similar to the original Motorola Aura, with some interesting extras like the original NASA multimedia from the landing of the spacecraft on the moon. It has still pictures, video footage, and some famous audio snippets; like ‘The Eagle has landed’ and ‘that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’.
The mobile phone filled with images, video, as well as audio which have been provided by NASA that depicts one of the greatest achievements of mankind. Users will get the mobile phone with an inscription of 20th July 1969, Apollo 11 mission made with laser and nine post stamps to celebrate the occasion.
The price of the mobile phone is yet to be announced but it is expected to be more than the price of £1200 of the present Motorola Aura. People can buy the Celestial Edition from July to the end of this year. It is not very surprising that the first mobile phone will be gifted to o Neil Armstrong as a sign of love and admiration. It was Motorola who really provided the radio transponder on the Apollo 11 which transmitted the foremost visuals and the words to earth from the moon. It is an appropriate mark of respect for the accomplishment.
It is true that Motorola does not have too many exciting mobile phones in its kitty but they have contributed to the enhancement of the telecommunication industry to a great extent. Motorola manufactured superior radio transmitters even 40 years ago which could be used for the manned landing on the moon.
