LG GW550 – Discreet business tool

LG GW550LG sure have done a good job in trying to fool us into thinking that the LG GW550 is a Blackberry phone. The width of the phone, the layout of the full QWERTY keyboard are all similar to that seen in Blackberry phones. However, one thing you have to admit. Blackberry have been extremely successful in recent times and it is, perhaps, this success that prompted LG to copy their design. This might be a good idea, in hindsight. There aren’t a lot of LG GW550 Reviews, so let’s open the box and see what’s inside.

The phone doesn’t have any fancy looks as such. To be quite honest, the phone’s design is quite bland and is similar to phones like the Nokia E71. Located between the screen and the QWERTY keyboard are the navigation controls. The screen is about 2.5 inches long and can display nearly 65,000 colours and has a good resolution of 320×240 pixels.

The OS used in the phone is the Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. The GW550 has support for IM and push-email and is also capable of viewing PDF and Office files. However, there is a dampener here. You can’t edit these files, which is a real shame as you would have to go to a computer to do them. The music player is quite good and supports a variety of music formats. It also seperates the songs into 3 categories, namely genre, artist and album. Internal memory can be expanded by using a microSD memory card upto a maximum of 8 GB. You can use a stereo Bluetooth headset to listen to songs on the phone.

The phone isn’t really bad, it’s more suited for people who’d like to be discreet. We haven’t got any information on pricing and the release date, but we expect it to be released in the 3rd quarter of this year. When it is released you will be able to compare all the great LG GW550 deals so you can save money.
