New LG Smart Phone for WP7

March 2, 2010LGNo Comments

While it may seem a little early, LG has already confirmed that it is not just working on the first Windows Mobile 7 device, but they are pretty much deep in progress now. Recent reports show images of the new phone and speculations regarding its features.

First off, the facts; we do know from last week that the new series will be set into three various chassis types. While the keyboard layout was not number 1, it was definitely number 2. The images of the new LG Panther clearly show a smart phone that is ready to pounce –or not. It is actually a little boring. None of the hard edged stylishness seen on the XPERIA series from Sony Ericsson or even the futuristic look of the Motorola DROID is present on the Panther.

The only thing visually pleasing about the new phone is its keyboard. The slide out QWERTY keyset shows some pretty nice textures. Of course, it is pretty hard to tell what kind of feedback they give -and that usually spells out whether users will be able to manage typing well on it or not. At least the keys look evenly spaced and raised to a curved form for a more comfortable typing experience.

The new device is pretty slim despite its smart phone form. While this means that it will be really slim when you expand the phone, at least it will be easy to store and move around with.

WP7 uses a new screen setup that bleeds off the rest of the menu on a touch screen display. Users will be panning around to customize and focus on contents –even better, the new Tiles system gives what the widget cannot: a fully customizable box.

A Good Start for the LG GD510 Pop

November 25, 2009LGNo Comments

LG GD510 PopIt may be optional but the LG GD510 Pop sports a solar paneled back casing. While a few devices like these will not stop greenhouse gases, the effort certainly helps. Nothing brings out that eco-friendly spirit than seeing a sleek, futuristic looking mobile phone sporting a series of solar panels.

Of course, there is more to this mobile phone than its eco-friendly attitude. The main feature of the Pop is its full touch screen experience (well, almost full). The only time users will not be using the touch screen is when using the context-based button on the lower right corner. This button will function depending on the current phone activity (back or home, answer call or end call).

The Spec Sheet Review

The LG GD510 brings a 3 inch touch screen into the forefront, of course, this is the only thing you will be using with the phone, so it better be good; and it is. The screen is responsive and accurate when tracking finger movements. The 240 x 400 pixels of resolution provide a decent amount of lines for all icons and text.

Missing in this device is 3G HSDPA and WiFi, it’s really a big limitation in terms of internet connectivity. While EDGE is still available (and GPRS), there is a lot of convenience in having 3G. Hopefully, the next phone in this series will have this feature.

Internal memory space is not a problem for GD510 owners. 8GB is a lot of space (far larger than in most smart phones) for storing images and videos that you can shoot with the 3 mega pixel camera. The device also has micro USB and micro SD for transferring files.

Available on Contract

LG GD510 Pop deals are available in the UK through various carriers. Orange Mobile currently has the device for free on the Dolphin 30 plan. There are also two year contracts available on Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2.

Physical Keyboard and the Android: LG GW620

November 13, 2009LGNo Comments

LG GW620Using a touch screen for the Android operating system is fun, but if you really want to make use of all the features, you cannot rely on the flimsy onscreen keyboard. You need both a touch screen and physical keyboard to fully make use of the Google mobile operating system. Android has a lot of web integrated applications, Google mobile applications focus a lot on messaging particularly with Google Talk and Google Mail. Not to mention that the Android has its own document processing application. LG knows this and they have the designed the LG GW620 to be fully ready for the Android with a 3 inch touch screen and a physical slide out keyboard.

Lacking More

The big drawback with the LG GW620 is that in the end, it is just a basic mobile phone. A little too old-school for most updated hardware fans, the GW620 will not last long against the steep competition at the end of this year and next year when even more Android devices pop out. But for the rest of the world that would like to try just about any Android phone, then this makes for a good alternative for anyone who does not appreciate HTC’s phone designs (those tend to look alike).

More From LG

At this point, the better GW620 contracts will still pale in comparison to deals for HTC Android smart phones. Looks like LG has also realized that their first attempt at the Android operating system might not break into the market well. They have just announced recently that they are currently working on a second Android smart phone and this time, they are upping the ante by using a Qualcomm 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Had the GW620 been released several months earlier, it may have fared a little better.

Korean Wristwatch Fun, LG and Samsung

November 11, 2009LGNo Comments

Samsung S9110I certainly do not understand what the Koreans are up to now, with major mobile electronics manufacturers LG and Samsung going head to head for having the best wrist phone. Hardware wise, LG is going to the true gold, delivering 3G technology unto your wrist. Still Samsung wants a piece of the spotlight so they are going to go first and release the S9110, the world’s first 2G wrist phone. I say 2G because no government agency is announcing who really made the first spy phone slash wristwatch. The end result is that we are all going to see two wrist phones being released soon, for no direct target market.

Now that is a consideration to take. Who is going to wear these wrist phones? I can think of a few really geeky gadget-happy friends of mine who would wear this, but even these guys would think twice before shelling out so much cash for a GSM device that is worn around the wrist (and if rumors are correct, the LG 3G wrist phone will cost over twice as much as the Samsung 2G wrist phone). The bottom line is that these novelty phones will not be getting around much. With most phone being used for web browsing, and messaging, having to bring up your wrist will not give you the same freedom and versatility LG GD910as a regular mobile phone.

The real consideration here is that LG and Samsung are currently, showing off. With other manufacturers focused on other products, it seems like these Korean based companies have other priorities in mind. Perhaps they stand to earn more through this display of technological prowess than they are letting us in on. Personally, Samsung needs to spend more time developing more phones similar to their eco-friendly Blue Earth model instead of these oddball gadgets.

LG BL20 Chocolate Priced at €269

October 19, 2009LGNo Comments

LG Chocolate BL20LG BL 20 Chocolate is out on the shelves in the UK and is available at a price of €269. LG BL 0 Chocolate will be available exclusively at O2.

This is the second phone in the stylish Chocolate series from LG. The earlier Chocolate phone was LGH BL 40, which was a touch screen phone with a remarkable 4” WVGA TFT screen. The LG BL 40 is based on the same design theme, and although it has a smaller 2.4” TFT screen with a much lower resolution, it has some other impressive design features, which even surpass the BL 40 in their attractiveness. The BL 40 is a slider phone, and its red slider keypad fits well with the dark theme of the phone. Apart from that, the phone features hidden navigation buttons, which appear when the phone is slid open. The design also features convenient touch sensitive side controls, which allow you to adjust the volume and the camera zoom without much trouble. Although the BL 20 is not as slim as its predecessor, a thickness of 12.9 mm is not bad at all for a slider phone.

Like the BL 40, the BL 20 chocolate also features a 5.0 mega pixel camera with auto focus and flash, and also enables you to benefit from the clear memo capture with text scan feature, which allows you to capture the image of any physical document.

Despite the lower picture quality, the LG BL 20 features a rich multimedia experience, and with memory extendable up to 16 GB, it provides enough space for the storage of music files or even movies. Unfortunately Wi-Fi is absent in
BL 20 unlike the earlier Chocolate release, which is one of the reasons for the price difference of both the phones. However, LG BL 20 provides a good enough network connectivity support for 3G, WAP 2.0, EDGE and GPRS, and also features Bluetooth and USB support. While only being available on O2 there is still a range of great LG BL20 Chocolate contracts to pick from.

LG GW550 – Discreet business tool

September 29, 2009LGNo Comments

LG GW550LG sure have done a good job in trying to fool us into thinking that the LG GW550 is a Blackberry phone. The width of the phone, the layout of the full QWERTY keyboard are all similar to that seen in Blackberry phones. However, one thing you have to admit. Blackberry have been extremely successful in recent times and it is, perhaps, this success that prompted LG to copy their design. This might be a good idea, in hindsight. There aren’t a lot of LG GW550 Reviews, so let’s open the box and see what’s inside.

The phone doesn’t have any fancy looks as such. To be quite honest, the phone’s design is quite bland and is similar to phones like the Nokia E71. Located between the screen and the QWERTY keyboard are the navigation controls. The screen is about 2.5 inches long and can display nearly 65,000 colours and has a good resolution of 320×240 pixels.

The OS used in the phone is the Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. The GW550 has support for IM and push-email and is also capable of viewing PDF and Office files. However, there is a dampener here. You can’t edit these files, which is a real shame as you would have to go to a computer to do them. The music player is quite good and supports a variety of music formats. It also seperates the songs into 3 categories, namely genre, artist and album. Internal memory can be expanded by using a microSD memory card upto a maximum of 8 GB. You can use a stereo Bluetooth headset to listen to songs on the phone.

The phone isn’t really bad, it’s more suited for people who’d like to be discreet. We haven’t got any information on pricing and the release date, but we expect it to be released in the 3rd quarter of this year. When it is released you will be able to compare all the great LG GW550 deals so you can save money.

LG GW 300 mobile phone- the high tech handset

September 3, 2009LGNo Comments

lg-gw300Everyone is truly the fan of Blackberry mobile phone designs. Nokia and Samsung have actually tried the best of their efforts at making the phones with high end features like the Nokia E71, Nokia E72 and Samsung Omnia Pro B7320. Now it is the chance of LG to actually join this bandwagon and provide the users with amazing mobile phone. The new LG GW 300 phone actually sports Blackberry appearance with the candy bar QWERTY keypad structure.

The LG GW300 is surely the entry level phone available for the new generation users. It supports the GSM facility well. The EDGE and GPRS are even supported by this LG handset. The 3G connectivity of this handset with WCDMA or HSDPA is not actually compatible. The handset is Bluetooth capable that means that the users can conveniently share and transfer files from mobile to mobile or from mobile to PC or vice versa. The inclusion of QWERTY keypad highlights that the handset is specially designed for the social networking aims. There is the email client and web browser installed in the LG GW300. Easy and fast access to the Internet is also provided. The display is 2.4 inches in size with 320 x 240 pixels supporting the 262k Colours.

The LG GW 300 is a social networking phone that will be first realised in the Spanish markets. The UK release is also expected soon.  Entertainment facilities such as FM radio, 3.5 MM headphone socket and media player are readily available on this device. The 2 MP snapper facility is even included in the box. Memory expansion to have that extra storage is another feature that can be enjoyed using the Micro SD memory card slots.

LG Louvre GC990- A phone like no other!

August 26, 2009LGNo Comments

lg_gc990_louvreThe LG Louvre GC990 is one of the new phones set to be released to the market this year. With Wi-Fi and DLNA, access to the internet has never been as easy or efficient! You can download files directly off the internet to your phone without any hassle involved in transferring files. The TV out port gives you the option of viewing your media on a larger screen if you want to. You can watch your favorite media on a larger screen instead of having to make do with the small screen on the phone. The advanced GPS feature on LG Louvre GC990 makes the phone even better, as you can use the LG Louvre GC990 as a navigational tool as well.

The LG Louvre GC990 has a 3.2 inch TFT display which allows up to 16 million colors to be displayed. This display is nice and bright making it a good screen to view web pages on, even if your eyesight is poor. The S-Class user interface that the phone utilizes is one of the best touch screens in the market right now. This user interface gets its inspiration from the 3D cube navigation system which uses the accelerometer sensor for auto rotation of the display. The ease of use of this interface is unmatched by any other touch screen.

The LG Louvre GC990 looks more like a digital camera than a phone. This is mainly because of the Schneider-Kreuznach lens on the primary camera. The shutter lag of this device is virtually zero, which means that you can capture photos in real time without having to hold the camera for a few seconds after clicking the capture key. Night time photography is equally good thanks to the xenon flash.

LG BL40 Chocolate- An enhanced touch experience!

August 25, 2009LG1 Comment

lgchoccy003The LG BL40 Chocolate is one of the new phones to be launched into the market later this year. Featuring a full touch screen, the user interface of the phone is very intuitive. This screen comes with a dual screen user interface, as when you run 2 applications at the same time, you can check on the status of both of them simultaneously. This makes it very easy for you to keep track of all the applications that you use. Storing a number of applications on the phone is possible, as you can expand the memory using the microSD slot.

Quad band GSM makes roaming easy and efficient. You can even access a range of data networks including GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA, which basically translates to easier and faster downloading, directly to your phone. Updating your music collection is a cinch, as you can do it over the air within minutes! Even watching streamed videos on the 4 inch TFT display is a feast for your eyes!

The 5 MP camera on the phone can be used to capture photos replacing your stand alone camera. With excellent detail, even in photos taken in dim light, the camera makes the LG BL40 Chocolate an even bigger force to be reckoned with. Autofocus, digital zoom, and a basic photo and video editing application round up the features of this camera. A secondary camera on the front face of the LG BL40 Chocolate allows the phone to be used for video calling as well.

Other media features of the LG BL40 Chocolate include a decent media player, and an FM radio. The media player can play a range of media formats such as MP3, WMA etc. The only possible disadvantage would be its price as the LG BL40 Chocolate is bound to feature in the high end of the price spectrum.
