Prices Confirmed for Vodafone’s iPhone Deals

December 23, 2009Apple3 Comments

iphone_vodafoneVodafone knows that it will have to compete with Tesco, Orange Mobile UK and O2 for a piece of the iPhone market, and while many of its current subscribers would no doubt be tempted to get the 3GS, they are setting their sights on getting even more people from outside their current clients.

Vodafone’s offer will not be in the line of cheaper prices. According to the CEO of Vodafone UK, it is service and stability that will get iPhone users to sign up for Vodafone’s offers. At the moment, Vodafone is boasting to have the most stable, the fastest and most reliable network for iPhone users.

This is a pretty big boast, but according to the CEO, the company has had a year’s worth of preparations in order to support the device.

Right now, users of the Apple iPhone often suffer from connection problems such as lags, intermittent connections and similar issues. These problems are situated from the service provider and not the device itself. This is why people have been tired of having a single provider for the iPhone for two years. October saw the first competition for the iPhone between O2 and Orange Mobile. Tesco Mobile joined later on and Vodafone confirmed that they too would be releasing the phone.

Vodafone is currently offering the 32GB unit for free at an 80 Pound monthly tariff that lasts for 18 months. The plan also gives the subscriber 3000 minutes of talk time and unlimited messages and WiFi as well as 1GB of data downloads. Vodafone also has a 30 Pound per month offer that will last for 24 months. At this rate, the 8GB iPhone is 45 Pounds and the plan comes with 300 minutes of talk time as well as 1 GB of data and unlimited messages and WiFi.

Research In Motion Does It Again: Another Blackberry In The Works

December 19, 2009BlackBerryNo Comments

BlackBerry Pearl 9100Research In Motion (RIM) looks ready to launch another BlackBerry product into the marketplace. The latest, the BlackBerry Pearl 9100, is all set to become the newest addition to the design line. The company has yet to release a great amount of details regarding the Striker (the product’s codename) and most of the information that can be found online is conjecture. In this post, we will list what we have gathered from our own research. The mobile phone’s specs may change a bit from what is listed hereby the time it is finally released.

The Blackberry Pearl 9100 will be by all accounts, similar in design at least, to the 9700. It will have 3G capabilities, a SureType keyboard instead of the full QWERTY keyboard utilized in the Bold 9700.

The 9100 is set to be released on the heels of Blackberry’s Storm 2 and Bold 9700.  Both of these phones have been well received by the public, as have many of the phones in the Blackberry line. As stated above, the known specs of the phone are pretty thin. No official information has been released. Even still, there has been a lot of buzz and talk concerning it. There are many of blogs featuring information on the phone, though it has yet to be released.

What is known, however, is that Research In Motion (RIM), generally hits the mark with its phones. People tend to like them and remain loyal to the brand. This particular phone looks like it will be a winner. As much as is known, it appears to offer enough features to make it attractive. The price of the phone will likely be the determining factor in whether or not people choose this one or one of the many other smartphones on the market. If it is not the determining factor, it will at least be an important one.

Caution! Divas Dialing in 2010

December 18, 2009SamsungNo Comments

Samsung S7070 and S5150Samsung is making sure that divas will be able to dial glamorously and luxuriously in 2010. Okay, that may have been a bit of an overstatement and a little on the dramatic side. The straight truth is, Samsung recently announced its plan to roll out a brand new mobile phone design line called the Diva, sometime during the first part of 2010. Both phones in the Diva design line, there are two of them (Samsung S7070 and Samsung S5150), should be in retail stores sometime during the first quarter. Though the phones have been in the works obviously for awhile, Samsung has been a bit secretive.

The less feature-rich phone of the two Diva mobile phones is the Samsung S5150 Diva. This clamshell, flip phone has a raised and embossed quilt pattern design.  This is largely what sets it apart externally from other phones aimed at the female buyers. Most others rely on color to be decidedly female. Samsung goes one step further and adds some texture. Besides the feminine look and feel of the phone, the S5150, codename Olivia, has a few features that will likely cater to the female buyer. Some the most notable are the ‘lomo effect’ and ‘fake call.’

The ‘lomo effect’ is a feature that allows users to edit their photos and add effects to them. This feature will likely appeal to young girls who enjoy taking pictures and adding cute little things to them. The fake call feature is what most women wish they would have had access to at least one time in their life. The phone will emulate a real call, giving the user a chance to make an excuse and cut out, if needed. This can come in handy during a bad date or a situation that is quickly going from bad to worse.

Samsung M2310 and M2710 Have Been Announced by Leakage

December 17, 2009SamsungNo Comments

Samsung M2310It is very often that good quality, cheap and affordable mobile phones come along, and when they do, they prove to be a great success with high sell out figures. A few years ago mobile phones companies started messing around with music on phones. What was born from it? The iPhone and the BeatDJ. Whilst neither of these phones are bad, the price can be a big turn off and can stop many people from being willing to purchase one. Nokia seemed to see this coming and so began production of the M2310 and the M2710 phones, specifically designed for music whilst keeping the price tag low. Although no official price has been given for either of these fantastic phones, they are expected to be a fraction of the price you would pay for an iPhone or BeatDJ.

The M2710 features GPRS technology instead of 3G technology. At first this may seem a big disappointment but when you think about how cheap the phone is, plus the location where the phones are first due to be released in Brazil where 3G technology is not like it is in America and Europe, you can understand why it is GPRS. It still allows you to connect to email server and the internet, and the Bluetooth connectivity will mean you can send files to your friends and family. The phone also comes with a tracking device, which means that if your phone happens to be stolen or lost, the phone company can trace it to where it is, saving you time and money.

The M2310 phone features everything as above and incorporates a built in FM radio, to keep you busy when you are out on the go. For more details on either of these phones you will have to wait for an official report on both which could be from 1 month to a year.

December 15, 2009T-MobileNo Comments

AndroidHenceforth, T-Mobile subscribers now have the pleasure of benefiting from carrier billing with the Android Market. You will recall that not quite long ago, the mobile carrier released to its users software update. The update is for its customers who have devices that are Android based.

T-Mobile also took time out to launch a number of information on the new update, emphasizing that users do not need to actively get involved in any specific task to be beneficiary of this latest development. The company’s plan is to have the update done without actively involving its users. This may mean that users will only have their mobile phones updated unnoticed.

“Beginning December 9th customers on post-paid accounts with devices running Android 1.6, such as the T-Mobile and T-Mobile myTouch 3G, will begin to receive an update Android to the Market application to allow for purchases to be charged directly to Their T-Mobile account. This allows customers to purchase paid applications without entering credit card information.” A post found on the T-Mobile Forums.

T-Mobile’s plan is to avail its subscribers the opportunity of buying applications from the app store, get them paid on their phone bill, without having to enter their credit card details. The company assured customers that all software that have been already downloaded and installed will not be charged for if they latter uninstall it, as long as it is within a 24 hour period.

Observers believe that the mobile telecommunication carrier is yet to reveal all details regarding the new billing. We expect that the other details will not be long in coming after all. What is however very clear is, Google’s checkout billing method will be the only option for those subscribers and users of Motorola CLIQ and the Samsung Behold II.

Sony Ericsson Elm and Hazel eco-phones

December 15, 2009Sony Ericsson2 Comments

Sony Ericsson Elm 2Back in June Sony Ericsson announced two new handsets, the Naite and the C901, that were to be part of their new ‘GreenHeart’ series. These phones were aimed at the environment-conscious phone users with many features designed to make the phones more ‘green’. While some of these features were commendable, such as using less disposable packaging and toxic materials, some of it just seemed a bit gimmicky and almost as though Sony Ericsson was cynically trying to cash in on the current hullaballoo about carbon footprints and melting icecaps.

A few months on and Sony Ericsson has now released some new phones into the range – the Elm and the Hazel. The names of these two phones certainly sound a lot greener than ‘Naite’ and ‘C901′, but are their specifications any greener?

Sony Ericsson Hazel 1The specifications of the two phones are virtually identical with the main difference between the two handsets being in the physical design and appearance. Both the Hazel and the Elm are produced from non-toxic materials and largely using recycled plastic, as well as coming in reduced packaging.  Both phones will use ‘e-manuals’ that are contained on the phone, and not in paper booklet form in the box. While this is great in reducing paper usage, it may not be such a good idea if you need to refer to the phones booklet for help if your phone is not turning on. The two new phones both feature the rather silly and not-really-that-green ‘Walk Mate’ application. This is an app that calculates how much CO2 you are not emitting by choosing to walk rather than drive, and it does this by calculating the distance you have walked. In other words, it’s a fancy pedometer.

But like with the release of the Naite and C901, the question still remains that if Sony Ericsson is truly committed to saving the environment why are they not implementing these features on all of their phones? The small benefits gained by reducing wasteful Sony Ericsson Elmpackaging with these two phones will be eclipsed by the fact that they make up a very small share of an otherwise highly wasteful industry.

To be fair to Sony Ericsson, they have stated that they are aiming to make all of their phone accessories compliant with their GreenHeart policies by 2011, and to reduce their total CO2 emissions by 20% by 2015. If you leave the cynicism aside, these are actually two quite nice phones with some great features that benefit from playing some part in helping the environment and also have a nice ergonomic design to them. Both handsets will be released in early 2010, with the release of the Hazel following the Elm. So, stay tuned for some great Sony Ericsson Hazel and Sony Ericsson Elm deals closer to that time.

The 2 New truly girl phones

December 11, 2009SamsungNo Comments

Samsung S7070 and S5150Samsung’s newest additions to it’s phone family are the S5150 Olivia, and the S7070 smart phone. Both of these phones are geared to be used by Fashion Divas and have girl written all over them, (they don’t actually!) Both phones are scheduled to be released in January 2010, and will both be available on pay as you go and contract plans to tailor peoples individual needs.

Both phones have great cameras, the S7070 Diva has a 3 megapixel one, while the S5150 contains a high tech 5 megapixel camera. Both of the phones feature new software which allows you to automatically touch up your photos on screen, and turn then into professional looking snaps!

Whilst the amount of memory of each of the phones could be better, some of the applications easily make up for it. Both phones are capable of very fast internet speed, especially for connecting to facebook, myspace and twitter. They also both come with free internet messaging, so you can keep in touch with your friends and family wherever you are.

Not only are both of the phones internally kitted out to be the best, the phones look great on the outside as well. The S7070 contains a diamond shaped button on the front of the phone which controls the menu features, and looks great. The back is also made from a soft quilt, which protects the phone as well as making it feel great to hold in your hand.

The S5150 contains lights that light up when you receive new alerts, which can be set by you. This can include a new text message, a new email or a new instant message etc.

Both phones are very girly, and will make any “wanna be diva” really look the part.

Xperia X2 Panels on Touch Pro2, Omnia II with Sense

December 7, 2009GeneralNo Comments

WinMoNo longer is it news that just two months back the latest flavor of the mobile operating system known as the Windows Mobile 6.5 was released into the market and can now be found in virtually everywhere. There are some of the devices that appeal to users world over, these are the HTC HD2, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, Samsung Omnia and others.

Whichever of these handsets has the capacity to deliver great experience for users. This however is not based on the hardware specifications they come with but by courtesy of the kind of software solutions they have inside of them. The Microsoft OS is not to be made reference to through software solutions, rather mention is made based on the interface each of the manufacturers have thrown over the WM platform. The HTC sense for the HD2 and Touch Pro2, the Xperia panels for the Sony Ericsson device and the Samsung TouchWiz for OmniaII.

There is no doubt about the fact that these programs work very well with the handsets they have been specifically designed and built for, the point is what impact are they going to have on other devices? The very imaginative among the users of these devices have been trying some of these programs on different handsets. Some have tried the Xperia x2 panel manager and Xperia panels and so on. The video below reveals more on what the likely outcome of porting a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 to the HTC Touch Pro2

Sometimes you not only let your imagination sail, you put it into real life and let it become real. Whatever comes out as a result of your trying these programs with different handsets may be worth it in the long run. If on the contrary it does not, you certainly must have learnt some new things about the software programs you buy.
